  • 1.  Lan console VS New enhanced LAN console

I found this post in the IBM ideas section, and I completely agree with it. We need a more robust LAN console that takes advantage of the HMC's ports. Not everyone has a monster with 100 partitions; some of us only have one, which is sometimes complicated to manage or connect to the console:

Is there anybody on this earth that does not absolutely hate LAN Console?

Every Power system ships with an HMC port and a service processor behind it. Please use that as the one and only console interface.

    Use Case:

Package the following components from vHMC into ACS:
    - 5250 console (WITH 132 COLUMN SUPPORT!)
    - the ability to specify the D-IPL adapter
    - the ability to remote power the system up or down
    - all the other stuff LAN Console supports that are necessary

Once upon a time they did have a Thin Client that connected to the HMC port. I beleive it was back to Power 5 systems.

It worked like a charm but it was short lived before they discarded this.

So it is possible to do this and I would like this opportunity back.

LAN console is OK untlil you get into trouble. Then it is a big hassle.
