  • 1.  IBMi Lan console error

    Posted 2 days ago

    Hi, I have a Power 10 with a stand-alone IBM i 7.4 partition. with lan console, The console card is an EN2W PCIe3 4-port 10GbE BaseT RJ45 Adapter.

When I restart the PC I use for the console or when I end the console session, it no longer connects. I just perform an IPL on the power supply and it works again. I've already updated the ACS and changed the cable to UTP CAT 7 with the same result. What could be happening?

    Dear Miguel

Did you use instruction provided in this web page: IBM Power10 Cabling the server and accessing Operations Console at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10?topic=use-cabling-server-accessing-operations-console.

Also this one: Basic Console Config for LAN Console on Existing System at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/basic-console-config-lan-console-existing-system.

    Miguel,

I ran into something similar on a new Power10 with the 10 GB cards. Varying on a line description would put the status to failed. I also had to keep IPL'ing to get the console to connect.

Look to see that you have the PTF's identified in the following link on your system:

    Hello,

I assume the P10 10GBe card is directly connected to the PC LAN card (1GB ?). If my assumption is correct, did you try to use a 1GB switch to connect both P10 and PC through it and see if it makes any difference ?

    Regards,

    Nikos
