  • 1.  Labor in the Taxonomy

Using the TBM taxonomy system, how would you categorize on-site labor for data centers or application implementation/upgrades that you purchase through a generalized company (CDW in our case)?  Would it just be under the tower that the labor is working on (enterprise data center/business software), or would we categorize it under something like deskside support? In the TBMC booklet for 2.1, deskside support was described as “Local support resources that provide on-site support for moves, adds, changes and hand on issue resolution” (11).

    Hi @Ryan Daley,

The way to look at this should always be where do you want to show transparency of costs, showing the fully burdened cost of any product or service.

If you have contracted staff to work within your Data Center, then the Cost Pool would be External Labor, and the Tower Enterprise Data Center.

For Application Implementation / Upgrades then I would similar assign this to the Application Tower, and then allocate those costs to the specific Application in question. You will then see the fully burdened cost of this Application.
