What is the definition of "Cost Object" ? are they linked to ATUM model?

Are "Cost Object "reference data"? standard dimension?

Hi Sylvie,

A cost object in ITP are the different aspects of the tool for which you apply a cost: I.E Departments, Services and Projects. Each of these have their own reference data associated to them.

So does this  mean "Service " is a master data (like business service in CT?)  with breakdown component to drill down into? like a "managed server" is a grouping of components  hardware/OS/Rental/Security/mandays?

Cost of individual components are important to identify where you can improve your cost for being in line with your pricing policy

Here is the knowledge base article on SDP for you to read as it does go into detail about what the module does :IT Planning: Introducing Service Demand Planning.

I also suggest you play around in your preview environment you received so you can see the different reference data sets associated to the different cost objects. Services do have their own reference data set that can in turn be pulled from CT. All infrastructure is then captured in a unit of measure data set.
