  • 1.  IT Planning: Project Financial Planning

    Posted 02/28/19 03:23 PM

    Greetings partners!

I am just wondering who else out here has taken the ITP PFP plunge and wondering how your implementation is going. I have some pretty strong feelings about how it was designed, but that may be because of the way we are trying to implement it. For example, projects are treated like a cost objects / cost centers and have to be loaded as reference data. I don't think anything as dynamic as projects should be treated like reference data. To me, employees are steadier than projects! We are constantly updating project reference data which seems counter-intuitive.

We are also having issues with some of the data (like cost object type) not going from ITP to CT.

I really want to hear what others are thinking. We committed to helping them make the product better, so more feedback is good.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,

Have you looked at using the portfolio investment planning feature? You can add proposed projects with out having to update reference data which can reduce the number of times you have to do so.

What other reasons are you updating reference data constantly?

    Thanks,

    Lauren Griessel

I am not sure I am aware of the investment planning feature, but I want all dollars to flow into my budget (approved not proposed).

Why are we updating reference data constantly?

We use PFP as a capital planning tool. There isn't a great capital planning tool in the market and I would think others have the same challenge. Therefore, each "project" represents a capital investment. If anything on the base investment changes (project number, investment description, adding an investment, removing an investment, changing start date, or any updates to other fields we have added, reference data has to be updated.  I think other users can attest to the fact that this information constantly changes.

Thanks for the clarification Robert. I would highly suggest you look into the new Portfolio investment planning feature then as you can approve projects through that process and very easily change their characteristics without having to update reference data. Do you have a sandbox environment where you can turn it on and test it to see if it is something that is beneficial?

I think it is a bit much to try to clarify here, but we set all projects to "approved" so they at all budgeted. If I change the characteristics of an investment in ITPF, then how does my source data stay up to date? If I change the start date of investment A in ITPF, then load new project master data, don't I overwrite the characteristic that I updated in ITPF?
