  • 1.  IBM API VMware installation step by step guide

    Posted Fri August 11, 2023 12:33 PM

Hi, I was looking for a proper step by step guide for API Connect V10 installation on VMware. I'd expect the guide to be in form of a lab with sample configurations (ex: load balancer configurations etc.) which would give us a fully working installation at the end. Please let me know if there is any that is known to you. I'd highly appreciate it. Thank you.

    Hiya

Youll find detailed install instructions in the IBM documentation.

There are no other install guides.

A load balancer is not part of the APIC offering which means customers use different ones and we cannot be responsible for their configuration. Generally speaking APIC doesn't have very specific load balancer requirements anyway.

Plus APIC deployments really can vary so a prescriptive guide wouldn't necessarily help many.

Follow the steps in the IBM documentation and post if you hit problems or have questions.

    Cheers

    Chris

On VMware, you will have to install DataPower (DP) on 3 VMs, create the API Gateway on each DP, define TLS on each DP so that APIC Mgmt can connect to the API Gateway, define 6 peer groups on each DP, and use one Load Balancer for all 3 DP. Maintenance includes DP upgrades and TLS expiry dates. If you have deep experience in DP, you know the above. Sorry to have bored you.

If you would like to explore alternatives, you might consider OpenShift (OCP) or Kubernetes (K8s) platforms, rather than VMware. APIC installs and configures the API Gateway and load balancers within OCP/K8s -- seamless -- you do not need to do anything extra. Renewing internal TLS (like the ones I mentioned above) is easier. If you have experience with OCP or K8s, I would recommend this path.
