  • 1.  Hybrid Deployment - API-C

    Posted Fri March 04, 2022 09:23 AM

Do the IBM API-C instance on IBM CLoud allow us to use our on premise DP Gateway? I see the same design topology for API-C in CP4I but does the same function with API-C service of IBM CLoud??

Any drawbacks? - I understand there would be latency issues
Will pricing be better compared to API-C on cp4I?

Looking at options for customer who wants to keep their DP appliance but wanted to move their API-C functionality ( Analytics,Portal,Management) to the cloud.

    Hi Vijay,

If you are talking about IBM's API Connect Reserved Instance, then yes.

You can find details here: IBM Cloud Docs

API definitions and subscriptions are cached locally on the remote gateway instances, to reduce latency, and improve availability, even if the management service on cloud is not reachable.

    Good luck!

    Dear Johan,

    Thanks for the response.

I have already gone through the doc before posting it here.

But i couldnt find a  reference architecture in your architecture center.  Also is this common deployment model you have seen with customer?

    Thanks
    Vijay

Yes you can use on premise gateways when using APIC Reserved Instance.

It is not possible with the multi-tenant SaaS offering though.

The API Connect Cloud Service does not allow remote DataPower Gateways.

If you are looking for a hosted API Connect Solution that allows remote Gateways, please consider our Reserved Instance offering.  This is a fully managed, dedicated instance of API Connect Version 10.  This allows, at no additional license costs, the ability to leverage self managed DataPower Virtual gateways, which can be deployed on premise or on any cloud.

    hi, Vijay
Is the On Premises Gateway a physical or OVA/VMware DataPower? The steps in TLS-for-Hybrid-DataPowerGateway have been used to define an APIC v10 APIGW (v10 native gwy type) on OVA/VMware DataPower (on premises) with CP4I API Connect on a vendor cloud. In this case, the Gwy Service sent analytics to the CP4I APIC. The system has been in production for almost a year. Note: CP4I APIC was not on a Reserved Instance.

Do you think TLS-for-Hybrid-DataPowerGateway can help? I am sure you will find ways to adjust the steps to suit your customer's environment. Please provide feedback and share with the community.
