I think the algorithm in this paper does not enough to understand the search while there are alternative resources.

    Alternatives are modeled using an "alternative" constraint operating on a list of optional interval variables. So, in CPO 12.3, all the concepts described in the paper that you cite have been extended to support optional intervals.
