  • 1.  How do you control with changes from ITP to CT?

I would like to get some advice if anyone has the experience of working on both ITP and CT with the following scenario. How do you control this changes in both side?

    1. Budget transfer from 1 budget line (a pool of backup budget) to another budget line (respective application budget line once confirmed the budget will be utilized). This happen quite often/ as and when to us.
    2. This budget transfer/ any changes in the ITP plan will need to publish to CT in order to reflect the changes in a report, where it will show budget vs forecast vs actual.
    3. Every publish will take very long to complete the calculation, almost 1 day 1 night from Dev > Staging.

I'd love to hear how others are working with this.

Here are some ideas we've had:
    1) Self-Service Reporting can pull ITP and CT data closer to real-time without the calcs. Unfortunately we needed some non standard CT data to support so it didn't fully solve what we needed, but it might be worth looking into if it would help.... I defiantly see this as potential long-term as Self-Service reporting matures.
    2)  We created a new CT project just for working with ITP and support data, we kept modeling extremely simplified and flat in it to reduce calcs down from our more standard CT modeling space. That allowed us to create Forecasting reports closer to real-time, but until it was finalized once a month we didn't move it over to the standard CT model and long calculations. It's still only updated once a day because of some of are supplemental data and processes, but it could be updated much more often.
    3) We keep 1 ITP project as remaining budget and then manually reduce it as projects are added that consume it... it's not ideal as it's very manual and when actuals come in differently than planned it's a manual reconciliation activity. We've been thinking of managing this outside in another tool because we haven't found a better way.
