Just wondering how many Objects and Allocation lines other users have.

    Our model contains:

    25 Objects

    86 Allocation Lines

We went a little crazy with our configuration.

    Hey Matt,

I'm a little late replying but I thought I'd still contribute, and you never know, this might bump your question up the list and get a few more people viewing it

We have 25 objects as well, but only 45 allocation lines. Out of curiosity, do you use recursion at all, and is this one of the reasons you have so many allocation lines? Or have you just got lots of different allocation strategies for each object?

If so, an interesting article for your team could be this: The Evolution of Internal Charging and Recursion at sIT Solutions (not trying to say that it's wrong, just that the model will be extremely complex, and may start to impact calculation times in the long run)

    Thanks,

    Oli

    Hey,

We do not use recursive allocations in our model.  Our Business Units are highly cost sensitive and give significant push back when charged for any IT services.  For this reason our configuration had to include many unique use cases that would allow us to drive BU specific costs directly to the BUs consuming the service.  The result was a large number of allocation lines and a significant amount of effort related to the data coming into the model.

    Thanks.

    Matt

Great! I just wanted to check as it doesn't sound like the best thing to do.

That sounds great in terms of cost allocations and insight hunting but a nightmare to configure

    Hi Mat,

I inherited a model of 40+ objects with 100+ allocation lines.  This level of complexity does allow for some very detailed and complex reporting for our consumers. Although it does make it hefty to manage and maintain.

    Cheers,

    Floss
