  • 1.  Export Components vs. Whole Report for Excel

    Posted 02/04/16 10:57 AM

There is an Excel symbol at the top of the screen (on the task list alongside report finder, pdf symbol, remove filters etc) which allows users to download all components on a page.

Equally, people can right-click on any component on the page to just download that one component into Excel.

We have some computationally expensive reports, with lots of components.  When users try and download the whole report to Excel, it slows down our production instance: not just for the user downloading, but everyone experiences performance degradation.  In our best practice guides, we advise people to just download the components they need, but if there is a big shiny button there, someone will press it.

What I want to be able to do is to continue to allow users to download individual components, but take away the button for downloading the whole report.

There is the "Allow Export to Excel" permission but I want that to remain for individual components.  There is the "Can View Task List" which I want to remain so people can get pdfs, find reports etc.

I don't suppose there is any way just to remove the individual task?

Neil, unfortunately there is no way to control this separately.

I don't suppose any of those reports that slow everybody down on export contain tree view (collapsible) tables, do they?
