As my company begins to add new users to our Apptio platform, we are trying to discover new ways to engage them and encourage them to log on and utilize all that Apptio has to offer.  Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to engage users?  Anything that has worked or hasn't worked for you in the past?  Right now we do have a SharePoint with a discussion board, our own e-mail for questions, and send out a periodic newsletter.

    Molly,

In my experience it's all about the business process your reports support.

What use case your reports enable? ensure there is a clear path to answering the questions end users need. Then demonstrate to the process owner how much easier it is to execute the process using your reports, and finally partner with them to train end users.

The business process should have a define cadence (monthly or quarterly) and have a material impact on the organization results or management.

The first use case is the hardest, the second one a little bit easier (not much), and I hope the trend continues beyond that point

    Hi Mary,

Check out this podcast: TBM Talk Episode 2: Two Things Every TBMA should know about Finding Insights

"Look at this nice shiny report that does xyz" can be an effective way to start/help socialization efforts, but also consider asking end-users questions like:

"How is your performance measured today? What tools do you use? What gaps do you find in the tools that are available?"

Sometimes the answers to their questions are already available within Apptio - and if you can peak their interest: "What if I told you that we have a new tool that can fill that gap and help you achieve your performance goals- would you be interested?" they may be more open to adopt Apptio!

    Cheers,

    Jon
