Could someone share an example of how they created the Department hierarchy in the reference data? I would like to see the column names. If your company has multiple layers under departments, I would like to see how the hierarchy was created, but not in the Cost Object permissions but in the actual Department dimension.

Hi Maria,

The department reference data hierarchy works exactly like the cost center reference data hierarchy. You can set as many levels as you would like within it. For example:

Note: the Data Centers department with D1500 as the code has NO parent which means it is the highest level in the hierarchy.

I came across this post and really liked your example.  Just my two cents, but I think people would find it helpful to have something similar for each of the reference data files - especially when they are setting them up for the first time. 

Perhaps, all the "Export Template" options can be updated, with more detailed examples.  Or maybe, people could have view access to a mocked-up instance, with reference data and plans setup for Acme Corporation or something.

Either way, having detailed examples, of any kind, would be pretty helpful.

I agree 100%! It was so simple to create, but it took us some time to figure out how to do it because we didn't understand how the parent code worked at first.

So: department, cost object and cost center hierarchys could be only cost center hierarchy?

Hopefully I am understanding your question correctly. Technically yes if you do not have a different department structure to your cost center structure they could be exactly the same. We have customers that have different structures or who own PFP so the need to have them separate is then apparent. However, i have seen a large amount of customers with the same information in each.
