We are pleased to announce that IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio 12.3 is available for download through the IBM Academic Initiative program. IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio 12.3 was released commercially in June 2011. If you visit on the web at
http://www-01.ibm.com/software/integration/optimization/cplex-optimization-studio/ you will find information on the product, including links to system requirements, online documentations, and details on product features. A summary of the new features of version 12.3 is found at the end of this message.
IBM offers no-charge, full-version IBM ILOG Optimization products through its Academic Initiative. Teachers and researchers can register for
membership here:
http://www.ibm.com/academicinitiative. Through this program,
registered members can download IBM ILOG Optimization software at the following URL, where they can search for ILOG Optimization or individual solvers by name:
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/university/software/get_software.html.
IBM Academic Initiative provides registered members with renewable one-year access to, for example, IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio, for both teaching and research use. The version of CPLEX Optimization Studio available through Academic Initiative has the same functionality as the commercial version. Thus, features like multi-core parallel MIP and Barrier algorithms, Excel and Matlab and AMPL connectors, OPL and the IDE, Java/.NET/C++ API, callback routines, CP Optimizer for constraint programming, etc., are included.
At the download site mentioned above, click on the link “Download from the Software Catalog”. After you confirm some privacy preferences, you can for instance enter “CPLEX” in the “Find by search text” field, and be taken to a page that lists the available images for download. (You need to agree to the licensing terms found at the bottom of the page before downloading will start.) If you choose the “Find by brand” option, please be aware that ILOG Optimization products are found under the Websphere Software brand.
The file you download is an installer. Execute this program to complete the installation of the software. To run the software, after download and installation, members will also need to download a license key from:
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/university/support/ilog.html. This no longer requires the user to install ILM, the ILOG License Manager.
Note that as part of Academic Initiative, IBM also makes its professionally-developed training materials available for use in classrooms and labs at:
https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/devtool/scholar/web/coursewarePickPage.do?source=ai-course-websphere.
Membership in IBM Academic Initiative is granted on an individual basis to qualified faculty members of accredited institutions, and is not directly accessible by students except for qualified teaching assistants. Students can however benefit from the availability of IBM Products via faculty who are registered members of Academic Initiative.
Each Member may make copies of the IBM Products to provide a single copy to each student enrolled in his/her class, for the duration of the class. CPLEX Optimization Studio includes the formerly separate IBM ILOG products OPL Development Studio, CPLEX, and CP Optimizer. All commercially available platforms are provided under IBM Academic Initiative:
Windows 32 bits x86
Windows 64 bits x86-64
Linux x86 and x86-64
Linux on IBM System i/p
Linux on IBM System z
Linux on Itanium
Solaris on SPARC
Solaris on x86-64
AIX on IBM System p
HP on PA-RISC
HP on Itanium
Mac OS X
Latest version: IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio 12.3 offers access to predictive analytics tools by providing a connector to IBM SPSS Modeler. The ability to execute Modeler streams directly from CPLEX Studio makes an integrated modeling environment for prescriptive and predictive analytics available to professionals using multiple advanced techniques. CPLEX Studio also extends its reach to developers using Linux® on Intel® compatible processors by making available the IDE on this platform. The CPLEX Optimizers offer significant performance gains both for mathematical- and constraint-programming. Additional enhancements include support for solving very large models (> 2 billion non-zero elements), capabilities to solve quadratic programs with non-convex objective functions, and capabilities to solve scheduling problems with non-convex objectives and constraint programs with multiple objective functions.
