I'm curious how others are handling Converged Infrastructure?  We have just begin procuring these devices and wanted some feedback on how to route this through the Cost Transparently model?  Thanks in advance.@Josh Koziel

    Doug,

In regards to Converged Infra this one can be tricky sometimes when you get into the Infra Layer of the model, but in the finance layer should be somewhat straight-forward.  You would most like purchase these devices and be able to tag them in the Fixed Asset Ledger to go to the Tower \ Sub-Tower of Compute - Converged Infra.  In addition, you would have potentially some software costs and then labor costs (i.e. Sys Admins that would be configuring the appliances).

Once it's up into the IT Resource Towers, these devices would be stored typically in the CMDB, which can be backed to the Servers Triangle.  Being able to call out those appliances you can create your relationship to the servers for Converged Infra.   Now, these appliances may not support applications, but if they did they would route to the apps that they support, but if not they would be routed to the Business Services layer.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

We tag our Teradata spend as Converged Infrastructure and have it going up thru the Mainframe object.  That's the way we did it in legacy, but it was under Mainframe or what was known as 'Large Platform'.  Now with the new sub-tower, we can separate the costs better, tho.  Probably not what you're looking for, but figure I'd jump on with my 2cents for what it's worth - cheers!

We send our converged infrastructure to the Bermuda triangle that is Servers as we're not able to gather the required data from our CMDB

We don't have ours identified in CMDB either.  There's about 6-7 Teradata boxes.  We have a one-liner to roll Teradata costs up to (from Converged Infrastructure) and know the two apps that support the boxes (Enterprise Data Warehouse), so we received an okay from the director of that area to hit those two apps fully w/that cost coming in, so that helps a little at least.

Yeah same here Jenny - our Business & Admin team record every order going through our Tech & Change Department so the order and application costs are mapped directly to Towers and Apps including converged infrastructure.

Was a large piece of work but I've managed to use the information in that file and the mappings at the point of ordering (by the requestors) and carry them through the model ensuring a specific transaction gets to the exact Tower and/or Application
