Hi, Need some help with the close month functionality that is available in "project settings". Is anyone leveraging this functionality for their application? If yes, can you please shed some light on the pros n cons of using this feature? What are the potentially pitfalls that we should be aware of?

Closed months cannot be updated anymore: no more data loads or updates to editable tables (vid. link)

Personally, I do not use this feature, but we are a closely-knit TBMO, so there is no risk of a TBMA inadvertently changing a period they shouldn't.

What we change is the Project Start/End Dates. We tend to keep 24 months live. We preserve some of the data for historical reasons as described in this blog post (link).

Also, we change the Report Calculation settings. We strike a balance between the availability of data, responsiveness (how long CT will need to display a report), and build calculation times.

Thanks for sharing that! My team is also currently reviewing time settings. 

With a full understanding that each model is different, could you perhaps share a bit more insights on the balance you were able to achieve? What is your killer-set-up? Are the improvements in responsiveness and calculation times significant?

I try to keep the STG calculation times within reasonable limits,  When we change years and I start opening periods in the future, build times start to increase.

Right now we are about180-240 mins, but towards the end of 2023, it started growing towards 500-600 mins.

I set the Project Start date to Jan2023 and calculation times went down to ~50%, as you can see.

Also, sometimes I'll set some older periods as not calculated. They are still accessible, but CT doesn't pre-calculate them. It's another option.

What I do is storing critical data for the whole year, that I then make available in a report we call Historical Data. Yes, it's incomplete, but it cover our main use cases.
