When I'm trying to append a dataset to another dataset the column type isn't consistent with the data i.e. Supplier ID in both datasets (the original and the appended) have a column type as Label but the Append Data Source field for Supplier ID is Numeric.

Is this a predetermined type on the append data source pop-up box or is it determined by the data being appended?

This is predetermined, and can be overridden by the table that the value is being appended into.

This is most acutely seen when trying to append data that should be a Numeric. If the table being appended does not have any Numeric values, then no column choices will be shown in the drop down box.
