    I am trying to recover some data from an unbootable disk, by booting AIX 5.3 install disk and mounting the /dev/hd2 to a directory in memory. That works fine, but I cannot run smitty, su, or tar because they are killed by signal 9.

    Any ideas how I can boot to a shell from the install disk, mount /dev/hd2, tar my data, and transfer the data over the network off the box?

    I am new to AIX and can't figure out what was always quite simple on Tru64.
