  • 1.  AIX 5.3 hangs on boot

    More specifically, once the monitor switches on and the system displays some server information (such as processor and memory) it will just get hang. Rebooting again will only reach the same point. The lcd on the server shows 'AIX is starting' message.

    Can anyone please suggest a method of fixing this? I was hoping to reinstall 5.3, but I would need to boot from CD to do that and obviously as I dont have access to shell, I can't mount or alter booting methods.

    Box is an IBM p630.

    One thing I've noticed that might help is before ML upgrade, kernel was 64. After upgrading, when system hangs, it shows on screen kernel being 32.

Mine did had an error but I was able to boot the server and do a TL update on AIX5.3. But once I bounced the server after applying the TL updates, the server won't boot up. I have to revert to my alt_disk and did the installation again. I noticed that I have a problem with the install CDs that I am using. Had to burn new copies of the latest install CDs for AIX5.3 and everything worked fine.

    Hope my experience is helpful to your upgrade problem.

    First I would try to Upgrade Microcode on the p630. Maybe there is a
    Mcode issue in the firmware.
