  • 1.  Bob security question

    Posted 18 days ago

    Hi,

Before my security team will okay the use of Bob, they wanted to know the following:  "Do we know that it is working in a tenant that is restricted to us?".  Does anyone know this?  I looked at the documentation on the Bob web site and I saw the FAQ about what it does with your data, but I didn't think that addressed this question.  Thanks.

AFAIK there is an individual SaaS instance for every Bob subscription. So all team members in an enterprise subscription seem to use one SaaS instance - whereas an individual user has its very own instance.

    Daniel,

Thanks for the information.  When I asked the question to Google AI, it said something similar but I couldn't really find a document that said exactly that.

Not a document - but when you start using Bob, you see, that every user gets a SaaS instance spun up - and when we got our enterprise subscription we also got an enterprise SaaS instance - I can even switch back and forth between my own (personal) Bob instance and the enterprise instance inside Bob.

But we also got the information that Bob (at least the enterprise subscription) is fully GDPR compliant - our data protection guy asked for it, and our business partner fetched us that answer from IBM.

    Daniel,

Thanks for the additional clarification.  I was wondering about the enterprise subscription.  Do you have any idea how the cost per Bob coin compares to the individual subscriptions?

The cost of the Enterprise subscription is the same as the individual plans, but you buy Bobcoins in $500 USD increments. The coins are put in a common pool for all the organizations users and are good for 1 year. IBM says $1,000 USD is the expected average use per user for an enterprise. Enterprise plans are purchased through an IBM business partner.

    Blake,

Thanks for the additional information about the Enterprise option.  That is helpful.  The cost per Bob coin of the 3 individual plans is not consistent.  The $20 plan is .50 cents a coin.  The $60 plan is .375 cents and the $200 plan is .40 cents.  So, do you know how many coins $500 will get you?  When you say "IBM says $1,000 USD is the expected average use per user for an enterprise".  What timeframe are they talking about?  Would that be per month or per year?  I would assume per year, but maybe I'm wrong.

    Dean,

On the enterprise plan, Bobcoins are $0.50. The $1000/user avg usage is for a year, which is 2,000 Bobcoins. Basic cost is $20/user/month for access to Bob. The premium packages, when they become available, will be an additional $20/user/month.

Your IBM BP should be able to provide you with this information and a proposal. If they can't, come talk to me :)

    Blake,

Just so I'm clear on this.  For the enterprise plan there is a flat fee of $20/user/month and then the cost of the Bobcoins are on top of that?  Then, if we want the IBM i premium package it would be an additional $20/user/month?

That is correct. The Bobcoins are bought in $500 bundles and, again, are in a common pool for all users. The Enterprise plan also adds in team reporting & quota management and SSO integration.

    Blake,

Thanks for clarifying things.  That answers all of my questions for now.
