APIC V10 - Facing issue while adding the gateway servers to management subsystem

  • 1.  APIC V10 - Facing issue while adding the gateway servers to management subsystem

    Hello All,

We installed APIC v10 management, analytics, portal and gateway components. Able to register analytics and portal in management subsystem but facing issue while adding the gateway servers.

We have configured eth0 and eth1 on virtual idg appliances, all this configurations are taking place with eth1 ip address.

    Error Screenshot

    Gateway Configuration

We are configuring this in v5 compatible mode, followed all the 15 steps provided in the ibm support document.
    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSMNED_v10/com.ibm.apic.install.doc/tapic_install_datapower_gateway_v5compat.html

Created self-signed certificate and all the components like crypto key, cert, idcred, tls profiles are up.
Gateway peering is up and running on default ports
API connect Gateway services are up and running on default port
All the management subsystems are in same network, so no firewall block.

Can you please help us resolve the issue.

    Kind Regards,
    Sarada Sahoo

I would recommend to create alias in default domain which will inherit to the application domain. Map the ip with hostname what you prefer to do, then use the same hostname for all the default configuration(creating cert/ssl  profile/peering and so on). As of now the hostname what you are trying to use is not correct and hence you are facing the issue.

Thank you @Chander Ponnusamy for your response,
The same configurations are working in other environments where we have not assigned any hostnames and we are facing issue with one specific environment.
Alias is only created for eth0 ip address.

    Below is my scenario

    eth0 ip - x.x.x.120 (myhost.com)
eth1 ip - x.x.x.126 (not associated with any host name)
Host Alias - only eth0 ip added

Can we do it without assigning any hostname to the eth1 ip address or it is necessary to assign host names to eth1 ip to make it work ?
Is it necessary to add eth1 ip in host alias ?

We will not be able to use eth0 ip as its being used for different service.

    Kind Regards,
    Sarada Sahoo

    Thanks for providing detail.

Did you validate the hostname in DNS, is it responding to eth0 ip or eth1 ip. Looks like you added multiple ip in DNS, using the hostname to register, but the eth1 ip does not contain any cert.

I missed your note. As you stated, eth0 is used by other service, your choice is eth1, add hostname for eth1 and follow the same process. you are good to go. without hostname you  will not able to make it work, as there is no cert info being available.

Thank you for the input, I will add a new host name to eth1 ip and test again.

To add hostname for eth1, go to default domain, host alias, add the fully qualified hostname. Switch to App domain, create self signed cert for the hostname what you added in default domain and complete the steps.

    Hello @Chander Ponnusamy,

I am still facing the same issue, followed all the steps suggested by you.
Even I tried configuring the eth0 ip and deleted eth1 completely, still getting 500 API error.

Both management and datapower are in same subnet.
    Management server ip - x.x.x.119
    eth0 ip - x.x.x.120

In logs I am only getting one liner error and its same as the error displayed in cloud management GUI.
Any other suggestions how to overcome this situation ?

I would recommend to troubleshoot Datapower, you might be missing few steps.

    a. Check Port 3000 is listening or not, you can debug in datapower itself.
    b. Check Gateway peering is up or not. Sometime it will go to default peering manager, it will be down. Make sure Gateway peering is up.

All the above points are crosschecked and everything is up and running as expected.
I observed below issue while debugging, it is getting timeout in 60 sec when I am adding Gateway in Management.

Attached screenshot will give you more details.
All the attempts are getting timed out in 1 min.

Check the log message on Management subsystem to get more details. Check your DNS server settings,

Hello @Chander Ponnusamy, Thank you for all your reply and suggestions, finally the issue was resolved by adding adding the platform-api fqdn to host alias.
