I'd like to hear how others are allocating the cost of server software to applications. Most of our SW contracts are with a handful of vendors. We typically don't know the cost of individual SW products, just the aggregate cost of the contract. And most of the SW is used by many applications. So we allocate total contract cost by server. We want to break out the cost of these contracts by product, so we can leverage data we already have that tells us which products are deployed on which servers and be able to allocate product cost by server, rather than vendor cost by server.
