    next when we physically hook a dumb terminal up to the box we can watch it booting, but when we press "5" after the first beep where in the menu that is displayed do i actually need to go to do the migration install?

    we also tried altering the boot list to boot to CD0 but it will not boot to the AIX 5.3 media we downloaded and burnt.

    PS I am kind of new to AIX/ IBM hardware, but not BSD.

    just another note, after pressing 5 on the green screen it eventually brings up what looks like the diag menu rather than even trying to boot to cd, i know this is probably obvious to someone, but just not me Sad

    Instead of 5 try pressing 1/F1, that should bring the SMS panel where you can define the boot/install device.

    Thank you Enrique, That's what I had ended up doing, only an hour or so ago. needless to say the first cd I burnt although mountable and readable wouldn't boot all along. i re-burnt the ISO and all is well. thanks again for your help.
