How to deal with covariates in Survival analysis?

    Hello,

I am trying to perform a survival analysis and I have some problems because I would like to know which factors are more responsible for the death event.
My  dataset is about tree survival along 5 years (3 months interval field survey). At each date I firstly recorded if the tree was alive or dead but also all external signs that could be could responsible for the death, EVEN if the plant was not found dead (sign of insect herbivory and/or sign of dryness and/or sign of mammal herbivory). Now I would like to perform a survival analysis but I have some problems to structure my data because I really wondered to take into account what happened to the tree all period before death. I cannot just enter: tree death after xx month and which signs were present at the time of death because I won't be able to check what happened before. I am not sure I am clear. So imagine you have a specific tree with sign of dryness during one year (new sign in each survey) but without dying and 3 months later this tree was found dead! As I speculate this tree died because of repeated drought, I would like to statistically show that.. How can i do?
    thanks for your help!
    best regards,
    xa
