Did you know that you can earn a badge for participating in this program!? Whether you are able to attend the TechXchange conference and certify in person or not, you could earn the IBM Cloud Technical Advocate Conference Accelerator badge for studying and certifying with us!

Let's look at the answer to yesterday's (08/22) question. Which IBM Cloud AI service embeds AI into a business by creating flexible, custom data models using open-source tools such as Jupyter Notebook and RStudio? The correct answer is C. Watson Studio embeds AI into a business by creating flexible, custom data models using open-source tools such as Jupyter Notebook and RStudio.

    A fact you should know…

IBM Cloud Hyper Protect Crypto Services (HPCS) is a key management service that uses a dedicated, customer-controlled, cryptographic processing Hardware Security Module (HSM) to generate, encrypt, store, and decrypt keys.

It's our favorite time of the day (at least it is mine), it's question of the day – Which of the following is a benefit of Hyper Protect Crypto Services?

      A. Keep Your Own Key (KYOK)

      B. Bring Your Own Encryption

      C. Bring Your Own Key

      D. Share Your Own Key

If you are behind what a great day to catch up. That badge quiz was harder than the first - did you see all the choices with Hot Vault in the answer?

Remember, Object Storage has four tiers

      1. Smart - unknown and changing data patterns

      2. Standard - data that is active and accessed frequently

      3. Vault - less active data, typically access on a monthly basis

      4. Cold Vault - data that is only accessed a few times a year

I am so excited that together, we will certify as IBM Cloud Technical Advocates. At the conference or at home, we will take the IBM Cloud Technical Advocate exam together.

See you tomorrow in the cloud,

Ace up your sleeve when you get certified!

It's day 20 and I'm making good progress, working my way through Section 8: Building Cloud-Native and Multicloud Applications on the IBM Cloud Technical Advocate learning path.

Today I completed courses 3 and 4 – Container Orchestration and Solution Scalability. I learned about…

    •  The key benefits of container orchestration systems
    •  The different types of solution scalability

    I know you're wondering, so here's the answer to yesterday's (08/28) question.

What is an easy yet effective approach to modernizing applications, that can also reduce costs and resources? The correct answer is A. Containerization can be an easy yet effective approach to modernizing applications. It can reduce costs and resources when modernizing an application.

Here's something I found interesting about autoscalers in course 4, Solution Scalability.  Autoscalers can be configured to dynamically adjust resources for a predicted increase in demand.

For example, if there are insufficient compute resources to schedule the pod on a worker node, that pod is considered pending. If a pending pod is detected, the autoscaler scales up the worker nodes evenly across zones. Or,

If a pod is not fully utilized - meaning less than 50% of the total compute resources have been requested in the last 10 minutes - the autoscaler considers it underutilized and will scale the worker node down one at a time.

You will learn more about that as you continue in this section. Let's get to what you really came here for today, the question of the day!

Which type of scalability should a client use for stateful applications?

          A.  Horizontal scaling

          B.  Vertical scaling

          C.  Exponential scaling

          D.  Linear scaling

If you're going to the IBM TechXchange Conference 2023 in Las Vegas, September 11-14, I'll be there, too! I'm leading a Flash Jam, a 1-hour review of the study material, including a preview of some of the exam questions. And you're invited!

Then, we'll take the IBM Cloud Technical Advocate v4 exam together - for free - in Las Vegas.

And even if you're not going to Las Vegas, you can still take the certification exam remotely during conference week - also for free!

When you certify as an IBM Cloud Technical Advocate, you'll hit the jackpot! Earn a promotion, land a new job, or demonstrate to your managers that you have the necessary skills to help your organization thrive. Let's do this.

    See you tomorrow,

The sky's the limit – when you are certified!

Can you believe we are 21 days in? Today, I finished the last course in Section 8: Building Cloud-Native and Multicloud Applications. That means, if you have been following along with me, we have completed the last section of content in the IBM Cloud Technical Advocate learning path. Timing could not be more perfect, with school starting back, time is of the essence.

In the Cloud-Native and Multicloud Solutions course, we learned

    • The hybrid and multicloud architecture focuses on supporting the portability of all of the workloads across all of the cloud environments and less on physical connectivity.
    • And the multicloud enables a customer to use the cloud services from more than one cloud vendor.

Let's look at the answer to yesterday's question – Which type of scalability should a client use for stateful applications? The correct answer is B. Use vertical scaling for stateful applications.

Here's today's question – Which IBM service is open and secure, addresses portability issues, and directly supports hybrid multicloud strategies?

    A. IBM Cloud Satellite

    B. IBM Cloud API Connect

    C. IBM Cloud Paks

    D. IBM Cloud Kubernetes

If you're going to the IBM TechXchange Conference 2023 in Las Vegas, September 11-14, I'll be there, too! I'm leading a Flash Jam, a 1-hour review of the study material, including a preview of some of the exam questions. And you're invited!

    Thanks,

I Looked for the specific lab for 5 hours this am, never found it. Could it be i converted to a pay as you go account ?

I did restart the program same credentials. The Lab I am talking about they issue 3 API keys , with ability to create your own, I thought it was for Kubernetes.  Main concern is not just passing an exam , knowing how to use the material.

    Thanks

It's not a gamble when you bet on Cloud Training.

It is day 25, we have reached another milestone - the end of the training plan! Now, it's time to prep! Study guides, flashcards, and quizzes – take your pick to prep.

There are a few ways to further your study and prepare for the certification exam through the IBM Cloud Prep App:

    • Review the Technical Advocate study guide
    • Flip through the flashcards
    • Take the 50-question certification quiz

Before we look at today's question, here's the answer to yesterday's question – What are the three components of cloud infrastructure that can be included in an IaaS computing service model? The correct answer is A. Network, storage, and compute are components of cloud infrastructure that can be included in an IaaS computing service model.

The other question from yesterday - A client wishes to provision a private cloud environment on a public cloud infrastructure. Which IBM Cloud offering enables the client to accomplish this? The correct answer is A. Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) allows a client to provision a private cloud environment on a public cloud infrastructure.

Let's look at another question from Section 1: An Introduction to Cloud – Course 4: Cloud Architecture Components:

Which type of storage is resilient with high availability at the lowest cost?

    1. Block storage
    2. Flash storage
    3. File storage
    4. Object storage

Which feature in the IBM Cloud console is used to identify and filter provisioned resources?

    1.  Search and Tagging
    2.  Account and Billing
    3.  Command Line Interface (CLI)
    4.  Catalog

Let's do this!

    See you tomorrow,

    It's a sure bet!

    It's day 29 and we've come a long way!

Let me discuss my plans for the weekend. Next week is our big day. Time to certify.

    The test is 66 questions.

You need 40 correct to pass.

You will have 90 minutes to complete the exam.

Here is a breakdown on the number of questions per section.

This weekend, I am going to hit the Study Prep App hard. We know the largest number of questions come from Services – 16% so I will start with those flashcards.

For example: do you know - Which IBM Cloud integration service is used to rate limit inbound requests?  IBM API Connect.

So let's do it!  When you receive your certification badge please share it with me. I would love to see it!  Also, please do not have test anxiety. I will be nervous too. But I know that we get a second chance to pass for free. If something goes wrong on your first attempt – use code 'ICCTSecondChance' to try again.

Here's the answer to yesterday's questions:

First, what type of gateway initiates connections to the internet but do not receive connections from the internet? The correct answer is A. A public gateway is a virtual private cloud component used to connect a subnet to the public internet. It initiates connections to the internet but does not receive connections from the internet.

Second, A trigger in IBM Cloud Internet Services (CIS) Edge is the association between a(n) ____ and _____. The correct answer is C. A trigger in IBM Cloud Internet Services (CIS) Edge is the association between an action and URI.

It's time for our final two study questions! The first one comes from Section 7: Security - Course 1: Compute Security Options

What are the two types of network access controls that make up the layers of VPC security?

                          A. IAM Groups, ACLs

                          B. Security Groups, User Control Lists

                          C. Access Control Lists, User Control Lists

                          D. Security Groups, Access Control Lists

Our next question comes from Building Cloud-Native and Multicloud Applications - Course 4: Solution Scalability

If a horizontal pod autoscaler (HPA) detected higher utilization than expected, what would happen?

                            A. More worker nodes would be created.

                            B. The HPA would notify the controller to limit requests.

                            C. The HPA would deploy more pods.

                            D. Extra resources would be added to the cluster.

Let's do this. We are days away from becoming certified IBM Cloud Technical Advocate together.  If you are just joining, learn more  https://ibm.biz/certify-week.

Thanks for joining me. See you tomorrow in the cloud,

What happens in Vegas doesn't have to stay in Vegas – leave room in your suitcase for your certification.

I'm ready for TechXchange, are you?

Can you believe we made it 30 days!? We've reached the end of our study with me journey together, but the fun doesn't stop here. I will be speaking on September 12 at 1:15 PM. Attend my session to participate in the IBM Center for Cloud Training's Flash Jam study session before taking the certification exam for free.

If you're not attending, take the exam remotely for FREE on conference days, September 11-14. You also get a free chance to retake the test if you don't pass.

For old times' sake, let's look at the answer to yesterday's questions:

The answer to the first question – What are the two types of network access controls that make up the layers of VPC security? – is D. Security Groups and Access Control Lists are two types of network access controls that make up the layers of VPC security.

For our final question - If a horizontal pod autoscaler (HPA) detected higher utilization than expected, what would happen? The correct answer is C. The HPA would deploy more pods if a horizontal pod autoscaler (HPA) detected higher utilization than expected.

If you are coming to the conference - look for me at the conference in room 107 or in the IBM Cloud sandbox booth.

Don't forget to use the IBM Cloud Prep App this weekend and we will pass the certification exam together.

I can't wait to see you there!

nice initiative with the program. Really like it especially as it gives additional motivation for learning. Thank you very much.

Are there any plans for similar programs in the near future? I'm also wondering if there are any plans for extending certification path to PowerVS? There are some WBT courses available, but haven't found one complete course with full coverage.

    Hi Jakub-

Congratulations! Thank you for joining me in this program. Due to the success of this program, we are looking at doing it with another curriculum. We are planning to do this again - most likely for Technical Advocate and more.

I have taken your request back to the team for PowerVS. We are planning our 2024 curricula schedule at this time and we will announce our plans soon.

What a perfect place and time to take the exam. I typically pull a lazy boy chair into my bathroom so that I don't have to empty my office.

Congratulations and thanks again! Let me know if there is anything else we can do for you.
