NVIDIA L40S GPUs GA

  • IBM is thrilled to announce that NVIDIA L40S GPUs are generally available for IBM Cloud Kubernetes Service (IKS) and Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Cloud (ROKS) clusters running on IBM Cloud VPC.

  • Organizations worldwide will enjoy breakthrough multi-workload performance with NVIDIA L40S GPUs, combining powerful AI compute with best-in-class graphics and media acceleration. It’s built to power the new era of data center workloads – from generative AI and large language model (LLM) inference and training to 3D graphics, rendering, and video.

  • We’ve found that organizations switching from L4 GPUs to L40S GPUs experience a 24% increase in clock speed and 2x more raw vRAM capacity to ensure smoother rendering, faster data processing, superior graphics handling, and maximized performance.

IPI (Installer Provisioned Infrastructure) feature enhancements for OCP 4.15 release.

  • Service Endpoint Override Support - which enables the ability to install an OCP cluster in restricted/disconnected networks supporting workloads with strict security requirements.

  • Bring Your Own Key Encryption Support - using IBM Cloud Key Protect, adds "customer-managed" storage encryption as an option to the default “provider-managed" storage encryption enabling customers to have more control and the ability to manage their own encryption key.

Encryption in transit support for Portworx - Encryption in transit secures data during transmission to and from the storage device. It ensures that the information remains confidential and cannot be intercepted or viewed by unauthorized persons.

By encrypting data in transit, organizations can

  • protect sensitive information, like login IDs, and personal data, from being compromised.

  • meet potential compliance and legal requirements

  • helps to avoid the financial and legal consequences of a data breach

Cluster Autoscaler 1.29 release (IKS/ROKS) - Cluster-autoscaler add-on 1.2.1 supports 1.29 IKS clusters. Below is a list of improvements made to improve the autoscaling experience:

  • Improved cluster autoscaler memory usage to reduce cache overhead

  • Multiple bug fixes during scaling.

  • Log improvements from core cluster autoscaler

Further features updates that will be enabled in the upcoming patch (04/07/2024)

  • Support of logging in json format.

  • Enable new flags --dynamic-node-delete-delay-after-taint-enabled, --drain-priority-config .

  • Support for new metrics node_group_target_count, --emit-per-nodegroup-metrics, node_taints_count

IBM Cloud Container Registry - Madrid MZR Go-Live

  • IBM Container Registry is now live in the Madrid MZR (es.icr.io). Customers can now store and pull images in the same region as the existing Madrid workloads for increased performance.

  • Madrid provides another data center region inside the EU for customers to backup data to a new registry within their regulatory borders.
