watsonx.ai Integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (1/6): Integrate watsonx.ai with S/4HANA® on PowerVS

By Thorsten Hesemeyer posted 9 days ago

What if you could engage in a natural language dialogue with your SAP S/4HANA® data — securely hosted on IBM® Power® Virtual Server? With IBM watsonx.ai®, OData, and IBM Satellite Connector Agents, you can!

High-Level Solution Outline

In this blog series, we’ll show you how to enable IBM watsonx services to securely access data from an SAP S/4HANA server that runs in the IBM Power Virtual Server environment.

High-level solution outline

The setup created in this blog post series consists of an SAP S/4HANA application server together with the SAP HANA® database server and an IBM satellite connector agent in one PowerVS workspace. One or in productive environments multiple satellite connector agents establish the data connection between systems in PowerVS and the IBM watsonx services. For SAP S/4HANA data queries are done using the OData service. All steps required for this setup are described in this series.

Let’s dive in….

Blog Series Overview

This series of blog posts that build upon each other, covering these topics:

  1. watsonx.ai Integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (1/6): Integrate IBM watsonx.ai with SAP S/4HANA® on PowerVS
The blog you are reading now, explains motivation, provides a high-level solution outline and presents the blog series overview.
  2. watsonx.ai Integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (2/6): Deploy SAP S/4HANA® System on PowerVS using Deployable Architecture
In the second blog an SAP certified Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environement is deployed including SAP S/4HANA server nodes on IBM PowerVS.
  3. watsonx.ai integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (3/6): OData Demo Scenario Setup
In the third blog article sample data is imported and multiple options to create OData services are explained.
  4. watsonx.ai Integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (4/6): Deploy IBM Satellite Connector Agents for watsonx
The forth blog covers deploying logical partition(s) and satellite connector agent(s). Defining, establishing and verifying the connection between watsonx and the OData service completes the blog.
  5. watsonx.ai Integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (5/6): Using watsonx.ai Studio to leverage SAP S/4HANA® data
The fifth blog uses IBM watsonx.ai studio run OData queries to retrieve sap application data authentication into SAP S/4HANA® from a jupyter notebook running on the watsonx python runtime, load a large language model and have it automatically use the service URLs that answer user questions.
  6. watsonx.ai Integration with SAP S/4HANA® on IBM Power Virtual Server (6/6): Adding a SAP Fiori UI to the flight data application
The sixth blog describes setting up and working with watsonx leveraging the SAP Fiori® user interface.
