By Mark Leftwich

Having just returned from IBM Interconnect in Vegas, and apart from the great collaboration I experienced between IBM and its customers/business partners, there were also some great presentations and demos going on. I would highly recommend you try and attend this year if you can! I have built a list of my top 8 presentations that I think are well worth a read if you use the IBM monitoring products. They all helped either myself, or the customers I was with at the conference. Let us know what you think - what was your highlight?

NAP-3867: IBM Application Performance Management Track Kickoff

Agile software development and delivery has changed the way enterprises deliver capabilities to the market and is redefining the market space. Cloud is where agile development is happening, while traditional IT continues to be leveraged in this transformation, resulting in two-speed IT. All this is making APM even more important to ensure availability and performance of resources and to simplify the management of complex hybrid environments across the full DevOps chain. Come learn how IBM APM solutions enable you to manage your complex environments to deliver DevOps acceleration—key to success of your enterprise's digital transformation. This session applies to developers, LOB executives and IT operations personnel.

NAP-3868: IBM's Application Performance Management Architecture

Attendees will learn about the exciting things that are happening in Application Performance Management Architecture. APM's elastically scalable architecture is based on an integrated analytics engine, providing the insight necessary to ensure the optimal customer experience of your business applications. When anomalies are detected, learn how APM can help you quickly resolve the issues to minimize customer impact. Looking to move to the cloud? Attendees will learn how APM is designed to help customers transition their applications from a traditional on-premise environment to a private/public cloud. If your business model keeps you on-premise, not a problem. APM's architecture is designed for both environments or a hybrid mix.

NAP-3367: A Hybrid Approach to Monitoring Complex Application Services at Electrolux

Electrolux’ apps environment is very complex, composed by many middleware and technologies like DB2, WebSphere, SAP, etc.; serving different application pillars like Factory Production Systems, Designer, Finance, etc. We had a large monitoring solution based on IBM Tivoli Monitoring, ITCAM and Netcool. In the last year, we have started exploring a hybrid approach at monitoring that complements the existing on-premise monitoring infrastructure with new islands of SaaS monitoring solutions based on IBM APM 8 in IBM Service Engage. OMNIbus acts as a common collector for gathering and processing alerts from both monitoring infrastructures. This has given to Electrolux a higher degree of flexibility and sped up implementation of new services.

NAP-3847: Bendigo Bank's Approach to APM Using IBM Application Performance Management

Bendigo and Adelaide Bank is making significant shifts in the management of its applications environment. In this session, you will hear about the critical role that IBM Application Performance Management plays in their APM Strategy going forward in monitoring their Cloud, Hybrid, and on premises applications environment. You will learn how Bendigo and Adelaide Bank's strategy aims to leverage IBM's APM solution to increase end-user satisfaction with complete visibility and control of their infrastructure and application environment.

NAP-4188: Building a Global Monitoring Solution for the Twenty-First Century (Personally my favorite!)

How many times have you been on an incident bridge call where everyone has denied that there is a problem with their infrastructure? Many teams are using their own best-of-breed monitoring solution, only to find there is no issue? Clearly the problem exists somewhere! This presentation will walk through many of the key components to building a solution for the future. With IBM APM, you can find out how to develop a scalable, resilient, globally visible and smarter monitoring infrastructure. Learn how how a large financial services customer was able to gain more value from their APM tools by leveraging an integrated suite including APM, Dashboarding, Reporting, and Discovery.

NAP-3158: Cloud Infrastructure and IT Optimization: Application Performance ManagementD

In this session we will discuss IBM Performance Management 8.1.1 new features, implementation practices, Monitored Enterprise Applications, and integration with Tivoli products. We will focus on approaches to designing and implementing monitoring solutions that help customers to better manage their hybrid monitoring environment with a new portal experience, workspaces and custom dashboards. We will take a deep dive into integration scenarios with IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Tivoli Common Reporting so you can take advantage of the capabilities enhancing enterprise monitoring and reporting. We'll also provide a live demo using the new portal tool on how to customize and generate reports on IBM Performance Management.

NAP-7226: Gulf Breeze Discusses Application Monitoring Using IBM APM and Log AnalysisDownload Presentation

In this session, Gulf Breeze will cover the following topics: Overview of Application Performance Management (APM v8); overview of IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis; IBM Website Monitoring on Cloud using Selenium; how to tackle Application Monitoring; keys to success; real-world examples; and Q&A.

NAP-4189: Strategies for Migration, Coexistence and Upgrades from ITM 6 to IBM Monitoring/APM 8D

This session will focus on strategies that existing ITM v6/IBM SmartCloud APM/ITCAM customers can use to take advantage of IBM Performance Management v8. Strategies include coexistence, hybrid configurations and upgrade. This session will help ensure that customers get the maximum value from IPM v8 with the smallest effort and risk. One of the key techniques will be to leverage the Gateway to bring data from their existing ITM v6 environment into their IPM v8 environment. Topics will include deploying the IPM v8 environment ,as well as migration scenarios to migrate ITM v6 customizations such as Situations, Take Actions, etc. In addition, the session will discuss the implications of APM SaaS versus an on-premise implementation.
