Smarter Browsing with Tooltips

By Illia Movchan posted 3 days ago

Fast access to information is always a guarantee of a user-friendly interface. Therefore, API Connect extends this principle with a new tooltip module. This new module helps users explore Product and API cards quickly and elegantly by providing all necessary information through a custom tooltip - eliminating the need to navigate to a separate page.

The Problem: Lack of information on a Product and APIs cards

Before implementation of the tooltip feature, users were required to open each card to access essential details, such as:

  • Type and description of APIs related to a selected product

  • The methods supported by a specific API

This full-page overview approach slowed down the exploration process—particularly for users seeking a quick summary.

How It Works (Step-by-Step)

  1. Product Cards
When a visitor hovers over a Product card, the tooltip shows:

    • The first 5 APIs used in the product

    • The type of each API

    • The version of each API

    • A short description of each

  2. API Cards
When hovering over an API card, the tooltip displays:

    • The first 5 methods available in that API

    • A short description of each

  1. Smooth Interaction

    • The tooltip appears instantly on hover

    • It fades in without interrupting browsing

  2. Lightweight, Yet Informative

    • Tooltips give a summary without overwhelming the user

    • For full details, users can still open the card as a page

Conclusion

The introduction of the new tooltip feature significantly enhances the user experience by minimizing the number of interactions required to access key information. By streamlining access to essential details, this enhancement contributes to a more interactive, intuitive, and efficient interface—benefiting both developers and decision-makers alike.
