Ping as a metric in SevOne from SSH device

Purpose of Workflow: Ping an IP from a Linux host and store the min/max/avg values into SevOne as a metric

 

Description: This workflow run a ping from a Linux host (via SSH) with a specified number of packets and store the results a DEFERRED metrics into SevOne.

List of requirements:

SevOne Install: Version 6.3.0 or newer

RNA Install: 2023.4.478

Environment Required:

  • SevOne NMS:  needed for SevOne API access
  • SevOne Username / Password
  • Mgmt IP of SevOne collector

Inputs:

  • Source IP
  • Destination IP
  • Authorization key for SevOne NMS
  • Ping packet number

Setup:

  • SevOne: Create the following Deferred data type:
    • Object type: "Ping"

      • min:
        • Name/Description: min
        • Type: Gauge
        • Measure Milliseconds
      • max:
        • Name/Description: max
        • Type: Gauge
        • Measure Milliseconds
      • max:
        • Name/Description: max
        • Type: Gauge
        • Measure Milliseconds
  • Authentication: create an authentication type "Common/SSH" and setup username and password of the source ping device. This will be the username and password the workflow will use to make the ping

Instructions:

To Run the Workflow: 

  • Execute the workflow with the required inputs.
  • Optional: add the workflow to the RNA Jobs

Expected results:

A new metric with min/max/avg ping values is added to SevOne NMS.
