  • 1.  What is the process to upgrade from DB2 9.7 that has DB2 HA enabled

    Posted Thu February 16, 2017 02:37 PM

What is the process to upgrade from DB2 9.7 that has DB2 HA enabled (with another DB2 9.7 target server ) to DB2 10.5 with HA enabled (to the same DB2 target server (which would also get upgraded to DB2 10.5)?

DB2 would be upgraded in the same server environment (e.g. no additional servers).

I would recommend handling it the same way you would in an 8.1.0 upgrade. As you are using 9.7, I assume you are running WebGUI 7.4.0.x. ...

Disjoin the HA cluster members and take a backup of the configuration through the export. drop the database. Do the upgrade to DB2. Create the database and join the first cluster member. Let it run for 10 minutes or so and check the DB2 database to ensure the sync'ed items are in the webgui tables. Then join the other nodes letting them run for ten minutes or so between each addition.

    Hope that helps..

    Mark,
If we understand your questions, DB2 9.7 to 10.5 upgrade is a two step process - 9.7 to 10.1, and 10.1 to 10.5.

    1. Power off both systems and take a point in time image snapshot of both systems

    2. Power on both systems and remove the target server from the HADR cluster

    3. Install a clean OS and instance of DB2 10.5 on the target server

    4. Use Mx-Archive to migrate the tables from the 9.7 to the 10.5 system

    5. Migrate any stored procedures, custom functions, etc

    6. Test - confirm everything works as expected

    7. Stand up a clean OS and DB2 10.5 instance on the source server

    8. Add the source server to the HADR cluster

    9. Resume normal operation

    Happy to answer any questions.
