SNMP probe, does the server on which the probe is running require the snmptrapd to be running?

SNMP probe, does the server on which the probe is running require the snmptrapd to also be running?

Without knowing the code of the probe, this is a guest how it works question.   The point is, does the Probe also acts as a receiver of the traps directed at the host, and therefore no additional snmptrapd is required?

I suspect that the probe takes on the role of the snmptrapd so the probe can receive and process traps sent its way, so I am just looking for either a confirmation or a correction please.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

The classical name of the probe is  "mttrapd-Probe" (Binary nco_p_mttrapd) - which kind of answers the question. The Probe itself listens on the port specified (usually 162/udp) and would actually conflict with another snmp trap daemon running on the same host.

    Cheers,

    Michael

Thanks Michael,  I suspected so, but was looking for the sanity.
