Sometimes you may see a “value” column in a transform table or on the report surface but not be sure where it comes from. There are a couple of ways this might happen.

Date Filter

The most likely cause of this column appearing is a date filter.

If this is set to “Column Filter” on dated columns (Jan, Feb, Mar, etc.), then in the transform for this table, those columns will be filtered down to “Value.” The content of the value column will be equal to the dated column that corresponds to the current timeperiod.

Collapse Grid By

There is also a way to get a “Collapse Value” column.

This is a property used when pivoting the data. This will create a “Collapse Column” column and a “Collapse Value” column, filling those with column/value pairings from the original table.
