The Fixed Assets component provides insights on your depreciation costs to enable decisions on how to manage your assets.
Common source systems
Some common source systems for Fixed Asset data are:
- AssetWorks
- BMC Asset Management
- HP Univ Config Mgmt
- PeopleSoft
- SAP Enterprise Asset Mgmt
Questions to consider
As you begin researching your Fixed Asset data, here are some questions to consider:
- How are you going to segregate your IT fixed assets from all other fixed assets?
- Will you include all fixed assets even if they are fully depreciated?
- Do you have a way to categorize your fixed assets that align with the IT Towers and Sub-Towers?
- Do you have contacts in mind for requesting the required data?
- Do you anticipate any struggles with acquiring the data?
- How clean is your data?
These are all questions your project and Success Management team will want to know as you look at extracting the data from your source system and loading it into Apptio.
Required columns
The table below lists the data sets and specific data elements from those data sets that are required. There are many other data elements you may wish to include. Please refer to your Configuration Workbook for more details on all data elements.

Required data elements
|
Fixed Asset Register
Use this data set as the basis of the fixed asset information
|
- Fixed Asset ID
- Asset Description
- Fixed Asset Class/Category
- Depreciation Amount
|
Fixed Asset to IT Towers Mapping
Use this data set to map your fixed asset classes/categories to the IT Towers and Sub-Towers defined in ATUM (Apptio's TBM Unified Model)
|
- Fixed Asset Class/Category
- IT Tower
- IT Sub-Tower
- Percent Allocation
|
By default, the allocation from Cost Source to Fixed Assets is weighted by Depreciation Amount (Purchase Price – Salvage Value / Useful Life). This formula assumes straight line depreciation. You may also need to evaluate if the asset is still a depreciating asset (Purchase Date + Useful Life < Current Month).
Fixed Asset Identifier
You will also need to decide on the level of granularity of the data you wish to load into Apptio. The Fixed Asset identifier is the Fixed Asset ID. Ideally, this is a unique identifier for each asset in your Fixed Asset register or list.
Columns Required To Link Data Sets
You will also need to consider the ways in which you'll link the Fixed Asset Master Data set to other Master Data sets. The table below highlights some specific data elements needed for linking data sets together.
