    Thanks for posting, that's great.

Would you be able to add detail about how Optim works with VDP please?

    Thanks in advance.

I second Barbara's question. Does this tool integrate with Optim? What does it have to do with Optim? I skimmed the attached pdf about VDP but i'm not seeing where or how this VDP product works with Optim?

    Thanks,

Hi Barbara, Hi Danny.. IBM InfoSphere Virtual Data Pipeline (VDP) is the latest addition (GA'ed in Dec. 2018) to IBM's test data management tool set. The VDP 8.1.1 'release notes' I shared cover enhancements to the current version of the product. For an introduction to VDP and how it works with Optim I'd be happy to share materials for you to get to know VDP's capabilities in more detail. I'm also happy to organize a call to talk about VDP and answer any questions.

In a few lines.. VDP provides the capability to provision near instant 'virtual copies' of production databases, making cost effective use of storage and giving testers self-service access to test data. It can be used independently or in combination with Optim TDM, TDF and TDO for various test data management scenarios, including Agile Development, DevOps, remote testing, etc. In the case of Optim TDM, for instance, VDP can be used to provision subsets of production in an automated, self-service manner. The next release of VDP, planned for late 3Q '19, will include integration with Optim Data Privacy, enabling users of Optim Data Privacy to execute masking workflows, directly from VDP and thus helping to achieve consistent masking across test environments.

I hope the above is helpful. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you.

Barb & Danny..  Did that answer your question?  If not - what Optim offering were you specifically asking about..  For example - if you are asking about doing Masking in the data files than VDP will do that for you in all of the test files that are created..

    Mark,

Yes, Benele added more detail. His replies clarified a few things. I was just trying to wrap my head around where these VDP capabilities overlapped with Optim capabilities. How they played together. Feels like another product but I guess since it's part of the InfoSphere product family then the Optim user group is a good place to advertise.

    Thanks,

Yes it can be confusing!   VDP is primarily focused on TEST/Dev data so you would not typically use it for Production.  In such it fits nicely with the Optim Test Data offerings (TDM, TDF and TDO)..  It *CAN* be totally standalone or you might just want to add the masking capabilities from Optim datat privacy in - but it really fits in nicely.  Very powerful and FAST...  I wish I had something like this available to me at previous jobs as it would be a HUGE time saver and we all know time is money!

    Hi Mark,

I guess I'm looking for more info on how VDP keeps up with the data change and at what point you implement Optim masking to ensure no prod data gets moved into Test. In particular how you prove that to client/auditor.

    Thanks,
    Barbara

Hi Barb!!!   Here's a slide from our customer-facing deck that shows how VDP interacts with Optim Data Masking..

Basically and at a high level - there is a config you make to VDP to run a script and that script is run as VDP creates the new volumes - that script runs Optim Data Privacy to mask the data so that the data is masked before it is even released to the next step - so no chance that unmasked data will ever be presented......

If you follow the number sequence you can see those steps....

I hope that helps - sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words..

    Hi  Banele,

Though this is quite an old post. Since, you have mentioned material in it. I would like to build up on this opportunity as we are starting with the VDP i would like to have al kind of material to start on from the installation & configuration further to make it operational.

    any help is highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
