I am not sure what you mean by "prevent links that defy schema". If you mean restrict so that users can only create links between the modules you want and in the direction you want, then the answer is:
- Create a "Link Module" for each kind of link you need
- Create a "Linkset" within each "Link Module" defining which module will be the source and which will be the target, in order to define the direction
- Then go to those "Source Module", in the module properties, in the "Linksets" tab, you have to "Add..." each type of link allowed, indicating the target module and the link module
- Important, here, in the "Linksets" tab, check the box "Only allow outgoing links as specified in the above list", in order to not allow other types of links
- Finally, go to each "Target module" and check the box "Only allow outgoing links as specified in the above list".
Another thing you would need to do for make this schema stronger, is to change the permissions on each "Link Module" so that users can not change this. Here is a link where it is explained each "Access Right" what means in "Link Modules":
