  • 1.  Traditional FlashCopy function at 8.6.0

We use traditional Flash Copy in Storage Virtualize to create a copy of production volumes each day for testing.

This was a 'Backup' type Consistency Group with the target volumes permanently mapped to a different host.

For a new FS5200 running the latest 8.6.0 service pack, how do I achieve the same outcome?  Am I forced to have to now create automation which performs a clone of a snapshot, then deciphers the new volume IDs, then maps them to the host, then unmaps the cloned volumes, then deletes the clone volumes?

Additional question: the mkfcconsistgrp command still looks available in the command line. If I use this, will the group then be visible in the gui?

    Many thanks,

    Edward

    Edward,

If you want, you can still use the "old" FlashCopy method. To do this with te GUI, you can make this possible by going to:
Settings -> Gui Preferences -> General and make the Display Flashcopy functions in CopyServices unhidden.

    Hello Edward,

in 8.6.2 new functions around the Volume Group Snapshots feature were introduced, e.g. a function where you can refresh the clone you have permanently mapped to a different host, for exactly the workflow you have in mind. Read more here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/flashsystem-5x00/8.6.x?topic=snapshots-refresh-prepopulated-volume-group
