Storage Virtualize Global Mirror, Metro Mirror and Hyperswap users (FlashSystem and SVC)

Howdy folks!  I just wanted to make sure everyone had seen a new support page recently released to cover the various migration paths to get from our legacy copy services which have now been replaced by our new Policy Based technologies.

You can read more on how to migrate and make use of our newest features here: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7166967

This document provides clear direction on what the new technology is and links to how to get started using it as well as all the migration paths currently available if you are running existing technology.

So for everyone thinking of deploying a new FlashSystem or SVC system, for folks who are looking to stay updated with the upcoming 8.7.1 or beyond release, and want to do replication, please have a look and let us know if you have any questions!

    Hello Evelyn,

    The document is telling:

In Policy-based replication, all replication traffic is controlled by the partnership bandwidth limit. This is different to Metro Mirror, Global Mirror and HyperSwap - where the partnership bandwidth limit was only used to control the rate of the synchronization. So make sure you review this setting when you migrate from Global Mirror to PBR, because it will probably need to be increased.

do you have more context for the piece: make sure you review this setting.?
What should we pay attention to?

Do we still have to take the backgroundcopyrate parameter into account with PB replication and/or PB HA? Has this changed compared to Global Mirror (with change volumes).

    Thanks,

    Hello TMasteen,

You need to validate the partnership bandwidth limit against the link being used.  For more context, please review the intersite link planning and partnership portions of the IBM Documentation.

The partnership bandwidth limit is the only value used for PBR/PBHA and it  is for all IO, including Background, whereas for old remote copy technologies you had 2 settings, one of which was for background. That is why if you are migrating, this is likely to be incorrect.

I hope that clarifies things.  If not, please let me know what is still unclear.

    Hello Evelyn,

Thanks for your answer. But just to be sure, with PB replication and PB HA we can ignore the backgroundcopyrate parameter and can have any value?

This is a little more complex than I had originally expected to answer.  As such, expect an update to the original document with more clarity about what and when this value is used.

Updates to the original document should now have this clarified!  Please have a look.

    Hi

Ist there anything on the roadmap for

Volumes renaming within a PBHA ?

Volumes resizing within a PBHA ?

Host clusters within a PBHA setup ?

    Thanks

Hi Sebbo, if a feature was not formally announced, it won't be discussed here.
Thank you for your understanding, and stay tuned.
