  • 1.  IBM Flashsystem A9000 with extra 4th Modules -- How to repair

    Posted Wed January 03, 2024 01:16 PM

    Hello,

    I am trying to repair a vault drive in a module of a A9000 ( 415) at 12.3.2.a-1.

The problem is that this is the 4th module. It is functioning/online but most other infos are NA and thus unable to repair parts in it.

I am guessing that this is kind of spare module ...

Can someone point me to the documentation for such configuration ?

    Thank you

    Hello.

What does module_list output shows.  Does it not show Status OK or Ready for all 4 modules.

I believe this work can only be carried out by Support people via xiv_development account. This may involve re-initialization of the module:4, which constitutes 'phasing out'(DATA_SERVICE_STARTED_PHASEOUT) of various sub-components like IB_Switch_Ports, network interface etc and then 1:Module:4.MODULE_STARTED_PHASEOUT.
    VAULT_DEVICE_COMPONENT_TEST_STARTED success.
    And, PMS: ModulePowerRestartV2 ended successfully.
Make sure you have working multipathing on all the host(s) connected.
If you have the S/N of A9K with valid support, you can open a case and get it done easily.  Maybe I am wrong to suggest the module:4 reset, but they for sure will guide appropriately. We have got it done a lot of times.
    Gracias.

    Hello,

The output in my original message is the module_list. But below it is again.

Yes I am waiting for the correct time to perform a dummy repair on this module. However, it is puzzling that the module seems to be online and with just one vault device in error.

The other issue it that we are unable to connect to the machine directly via Tech port. Both ports seem to have been disactivated. And again, there are no errors on them and they online /functioning.

And we are unable to repair/replace any parts ...

Is the Module 4 issue linked to the connection ports issue ?

Is it any way to reset the module without phaseout/in ?  Any one has the magic command ?

    Thank you

    Hello.

Are you able to run the below commands ?  Or, you get some message like 'Operation forbidden for user category'.
Else you will need that development user I referred-to earlier.

    A9000R>>component_test component=1:Module:4
    A9000R>>component_test component=1:Vault_Device:1:1

A9000R>>component_phaseout component=1:Module:4  <=  Don't run this command yet, though :-). I think if it doesn't let you run the above test commands, this will also not run.
    A9000R>>component_phasein component=1:Module:4   <=  Again, don't run this command yet, though :-)

    A9000R>>component_service_required_list component=1:Vault_Device:3:1
Generally following are the Vaults in an A9000R.
    1:Vault_Device:1:1
    1:Vault_Device:1:2
    1:Vault_Device:2:1
    1:Vault_Device:2:2
    1:Vault_Device:3:1
    1:Vault_Device:3:2
    1:Vault_Device:4:1
    1:Vault_Device:4:2
    Best

    Hello ...

Just to close out the discussion. I resolved the issue by performing a dummy repair of the module.

    Thank you
