    Posted 30 days ago

    Hi,

My customer has a BladeCenter H MT 8852 with 4 Blade Server HS23 (2x Intel Xeon E5-2620 V2) and right now he has installed Vmware 6.7.0 build 20497097 and he has to know the lastest version which he can install vmware ESXi.

Also, he has another BladeCenter H with with 4 Blade Server HS22 (1x Quad-Core Intel Xeon X5570 2.93Ghz) with ESXi 4.1 and he wants to know the lastest version of vmware that he can install.

The IBM System X3250 M4 with Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2.

    Thanks in advanced.

    Regards.

Take a look at VMware Compatibility Guide - System Search

Not a an answer to your question, but given the age of those processors (came out in 2009, 2011, and 2013), you may get relevant savings (Footprint, Power & Air-Conditioning, and even Licencing) replacing them with more recent machines.

    Hi José Pina,

    Good afternoon.

Yes, I know that that the server are so old.

Also, is it posible to install vCenter Server 7.0 in HS23 and manage the rest of ESXi 6.5, 6.7,...?

Vmware only support to version 6.7 in HS23.

    Thanks in advanced.

    Regards.

Here is a good place to check interoperability of VMware Products - https://interopmatrix.vmware.com/

It would really be best to upgrade to new hardware. They may see an ROI from HW Maintenance, software license cost, decrease unplan downtime and increase security by doing so

    Hi,

Could be a good server to migrate to IBM Blade Center with Blade Server HS23? I saw  IBM Power E1080 and 1050.

    Regards.

IBM Power is based on the Power CPUs, not Intel, but if you have only Linux VMs, Linux on Power is definitely an option (both RHEL and SLES) provided that whatever you're running on those x86_64 VMs also has a port to ppc64le.

    Hello Miguel,

As José menitoned your talking x86 Intel based architecture on that system. Big change to IBM Power series. If staying with VMware consider a few 1U/2U Intel based options from a tier 1 vendor. Previously as 'blade guy' I would always recommend them for high density, co-lo, etc. That being said, ususally the backend I/O costs made them prohibative for small installations. Most of the baldes I dealt with had 16+ blades per chassis and around blade #10 was usally the trade off for being less then and smaller rack footprint then 1U dual socket servers.  If thinking of another  virtualization environment, then Power and IBM PowerVM maybe a good option.
