  • 1.  100% of effective capacity fs5200

Hello, Can I use 100% of the effective capacity (TiB) of an FS5200? Will it affect performance or other issues if I use all the available space?
    Greetings.

    Miguel,

Best practice, and what TD Synnex UK inform all customers of, is to use max 80% to allow any background process, such as garbage collection, to be unaffected.

    Hi Miguel,

please consider the following support flash for capacity planning >> https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/do-not-provision-100-physical-flash

It's important to understand that the 100% effective capacity of your FS5200 system is not static (if you're using FCMs). Factors such as data type/compressibility, deduplication ratio (if using DRP) can all affect it. For example, if new data arrives with a lower compression ratio, your effective capacity could drop below the current effective capacity due to increased physical storage consumption.

    Hello Miguel,

We should not use 100% of the effective capacity as it can result insufficient space to keep up the write operations and garbage collection which can lead to variety of problems like poor drive performance. Flash drives depend on free pages availability to process new write operations and process garbage collections.

Recommendation is to have used space less than 85% or 80% if SVC is being used to present storage.
