Meet Marcus König, an Advanced Technical Specialist and Managing Director at Systemethix, whose journey in technology and passion for IBM products has shaped his career into a compelling story of innovation and collaboration. When asked about his favorite IBM product, Marcus enthusiastically mentions IBM Storage Scale. He explains that this product encapsulates much of what makes IBM unique in the technology landscape. He adds, “I have been involved in numerous setups large (HPC) to small (NAS) and almost every time one has to combine different skills (from Linux, over Software Defined Storage to automation and policy based HSM) to provide a unique experience for the customer”.
Marcus’s advocacy within the technology realm spans various platforms and mediums. Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he actively participated in speaking engagements at prestigious events like the Australian TechU and TechXchange events. Here, he shared his expertise on different IBM products and provided hands-on insights into their implementations. Marcus values the opportunity to engage with diverse audiences through blogs, community interactions, and speaking engagements, where he can foster knowledge exchange and promote innovative solutions.
Marcus's dedication to giving back to the technology community comes from his rich career experience. From his early days with a German retailer, where he worked extensively with IBM mainframes, Power Systems, and storage solutions, to his roles in New Zealand with IBM, MK has always been driven by a passion for sharing knowledge. He finds fulfilment in solutioning around IBM technologies; “I have always been happy to share the knowledge of our unique solutions based on IBM Tech at TechXchange or with new and existing clients. I loved solutioning around IBM based solutions with super skilled clients in the HPC or large scale media ecosystem here in New Zealand”.
Among his various achievements, Marcus would like to point out one success story from his career; “The last 5 years we've been working with a large health service provider to provide cost and growth modelling for their unstructured and structured data requirements. During the 5 years - I helped the client create several different cost and lifecycle views. Finally with the help of Barry Whyte and the local IBM team - we were able to close the deal end of 2023 and obtain the order from the client for dozens of Storage and Power Systems to completely swap out their whole storage landscape. We're currently busy implementing the numerous devices and expect these to be finished later this year”.
If he weren’t a part of the technology realm, he shares the dream of becoming a sailor on a sailing vessel!
