Hello All,

I am a complete noob when it comes to IBM I. I signed up for IBM cloud trial to test a custom connector my team built to test with IBM I and after spinning up the instance, one of the first instructions was to run the command "STRTCPIP" and I keep getting the error below

"Command STRTCP in library *LIBL  not found"

I have tried everything gemini and claude suggested and I wondering if this error is because I am on a trial and some basic modules are not installed in trial accounts. I was redirected here by the support team as I am on a trial account, I would appreciate any guidance to get past this or confirmation that I won't be able to test this with a trial account.

Dear Manoj

The command is STRTCP, not STRTCPIP.  Normally, STRTCP is included in IBM i startup program that runs at every IPL process. It is not likely you need to run it.

But if you are using a test environment that may not run STRTCP at IPL time, you run the command STRTCP.  If you still encounter the same error, you need to check if QSYS library is in your job's library list or not using DSPLIBL command.  If QSYS is NOT in your job's library list and if you have authority to run ADDLIBLE command, you add it with ADDLIBLE LIB(QSYS) and the run STRTCP command again.  be sure to press F4 after STRTCP rather than pressing enter and fill in proper values for various parameters of STRTCP command before pressing enter.

Two things.  Diving deeper into other replies and an alternative theory.

DSPOBJD OBJ(QSYS/STRTCP) OBJTYPE(*CMD)

Not WRKOBJ.  If the object exists but you do not have authority to it, it will not show up in WRKOBJ.  In DSPOBJD you will get notified that you do not have authority, or it doesn't exist.

DSPSYSVAL SYSVAL(QSYSLIBL)    QSYS should be part of this.

I confirm that STRTCPIP is not a valid command.  At least not provided by IBM.  Unless in some obscure fashion, like QSYS38?

Now, here is another option:

DSPPTF LICPGM(5770TC1)

If you get "Product 5770TC1 *ALL not supported or installed." you have to install it.  It is installed by default, but maybe, just maybe, someone set up a system with the barest minimum on it.  Figuring you were going to scratch install from your own old system.
