Reporting - Unable to Insert Variance Column

Question

Hi guys, I hope its something silly I'm missing...... No matter what I do the 'Insert' or short cut formulas are greyed out in a report that im trying to add a variance column.

I do have pickers and slicers on the report but surely that can't be the issue?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am pretty sure it's due to having the quarters in the Columns section.
What I usually do is removing the time series, make whatever changes are necessary, and then reinstate the time columns.
