Hi,

I have questions regarding LPP that no longer require keys. After Migrating an LPAR From Power 9 to a new Power 10, message CPI9E77 are sent to dsplog for programs that now don't need a key. These programs are keyed on the power 9 and are listed in the command CALL QSFWINV and in WRKLICINF with no key. IBMi OS is V7R5.

I know that there is a PTF to remove message (and delete listed LPP from QSFWINV and WRKLICINF) and from this KB IBM 7066410 the message don't prevent the program from functioning properly. I don't see any Licence expiration date on this LPP in QSYS2.LICENCE_INFO.

Does i have to install the PTF now, or can I wait for a future CUM and GROUP PTF Installation ? How does OS determine that these programs doesn't need a key now ? Call home? VPD ? TR ?

Regards

I would apply all cume, groups, etc.  Even if you were current back on your P9.  Why?  Because P10 only PTF's may not have loaded into the LIC back on the P9.  Besides, if you're getting that message it's not likely you're very current on PTFs anyway.

Hello Virgile,

The following document describes which PTFs are needed for "LPP Licensing Simplification" to activate.

https://public.dhe.ibm.com/systems/support/planning/transfer/IBM.i.Price.Change.and.Simplification.pdf

Apply the PTFs listed (or rather newer ones which already superseded those on the original list) and re-IPL the system. After that you should not be seeing any more of those pesky "License missing" messages.

Hope this helps.

Hello @Virgile VATIN,

This is in line with the IBM i portfolio simplification as some of the product are already included with the IBM i entitlement. There are PTF's specifically to fix the keys messages you are getting after migrating to P10 server. Even though there are messages on the system for keys expiring but the product will continue to work for which the key is not required. However, it is highly recommended to get the fixes applied at the soonest convenient time. Please see the the below tech note to know the PTF needed .

Products are no longer listed in WRKLICINF but show in DSPLICKEY or CALL QSFWINV
