Guidance on Updating Asset Meter Type

Hello,

A user entered the wrong meter type for a manufacturing asset, DELTA, and recorded two readings. The manufacturer has now requested that the type be changed to ACTUAL. How can we update the asset meter type from DELTA to ACTUAL without replacing the meter, since it is generic for all assets?

Maximo EAM version: 7.6.1.1

Hi Hassan,

I've reviewed this and found that the reading type field is read-write as per my screenshot.  I tested the theory that it might have been locked because a reading had taken place, but nope.

I would suggest that you review if the field has a) had a UI configuration set to READONLY, and just set it back to the [blank] option. 2) has a conditional UI, therefore remove/change it in the Application Designer, or 3) has a data restriction applied to the attribute in Security Groups.

Thank you, Craig, for your valuable input. Based on that, we carried out the following checks:

We checked the READINGTYPE behavior on both a standard Maximo VM and our KDD instance where the Transport add-on is installed. On the VM without the PLUST add-on, the field is editable. However, once PLUST is installed, the ASSETMETER class changes from psdi to plust, where the field is only editable if METERTYPE = CONTINUOUS and only for new rows.

This explains why READINGTYPE is not editable in our case. However, making it read-only is not justifiable, as it leaves us locked in a situation where we cannot adjust or correct the field when required, creating both operational and maintenance challenges.

I would appreciate your guidance or support in finding a way to address this limitation.
