Do I have to use TLS to connect to my server with RDi

I am trying to configure the connection to my IBM i and as soon as I complete the host name, the Use Secure communications methods automatically checks and I can't undo it.   Do I need to use TLS when connecting to my server with RDI 9.8?

Hi Michael,

no - but RDi 9.8 defaults to a secure connection. But after creating the connection you can right click it, and change it there. IIRC it's a checkbox called "Use secure connection" - just uncheck it, and try again.

My company uses a secure VPN, so we also haven't configured secure connections in RDi. And that seems to be pretty normal.

I hope this helps - if you need more details, please ask, I can send you screenshots if you need them.

Kind regards,

Daniel

I wouldn't call it "pretty normal"... not securing your communications in RDi means that everyone can see your user/password on your network (and even on your laptop before it goes into the VPN tunnel).

The VPN is only a part of the complete connection... and the weakest part sets the standard !

Best to use and configure TLS, network security scans at most enterprises does flag ones connection when it sees the username going across the wire in cleartext which will cause you trouble with CyberSec.
