    Hello

I am using a single storage pool (rootvg)  which is  based on a single NVMe disk on an Alpine system in slot C4 . There are multiple virtual disks have been created based on the same storage pool (rootvg). The virtual disks have already been assigned to multiple LPARs.  However, only one of the virtual disks  visible , the rest of the virtual disks are not found when looking at the SMS menu ?

First up, no client LPAR data belongs on VIO's rootvg. Used to be
explicitly unsupported, just like using mirrored LVs as a backing
    device (virtual disk) isn't supported.

Second, SMS will only show disks with a boot sector if you are trying
    to choose a boot device.

    Hello Mel,

First of creating Logical Volumes (LV's)  on VIOS rootvg to host client partitions is not a supported config as stated in redbook "IBM PowerVM Virtualization Introduction and Configuration"
    https://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg247940.pdf
Page : 212 (Search for Important section)

But coming to you question . For a given client the disk holding the bootimage/boot record (i.e client's rootvg ) is displayed in SMS mode . If you want to check all the disks to verify if they are available you can use the  "ioinfo" utility in the "Open firmware"

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-determine-san-boot-disk-used-last-successful-vios-normal-boot

Above doc is for SAN disk .But for a VIOS VSCSI disk  you will need to choose Option "7. VSCSIINFO" in step 3 of the document . This will show you all the disks
