Would you please advise  with following thing,  I have following behavior with samba 4.16.x installed on AIX 7.2, when i specified into the smb.conf following line

winbind separator = \

so in the theory is equal with default 
wbinfo -u shows:

DOMAIN
DOMAIN
...

after comment out mentioned line into the smb.conf
wbinfo -u shows

DOMAIN\domuser1
DOMAIN\domuser2
...

Hi,

you should use two backslashes. Backslash is used for escaping otherwise.

additionally testparm shows

...

ERROR: the 'winbind separator' parameter must be a single character.

...

did you restart winbind? I just tested this with our current sambaplus 4.17.5 and this works with two backslashes here. Testparm complains however, yes. You might want to file this to bugzilla samba.org or contact a company offering commercial Samba support (like us) to fix this if you need this addressed urgently.

but you know that \ is the default winbind separator and that you could also simply remove that parameter to use the (default) backslash separator also. But as mentioned, if you need for some reason the explicit setting of the default value to get fixed, feel free to contact us.
