  • 1.  Mirroing of NVMe disks

    Hi

    Need to mirror 2 x NVMe disks (RAID1) to be used by IBM i vm over VIOS.

    Is it possible to do hardware mirroing of these disks via DIAG?

    Because in the NVMe Manager of the DIAG menu I can't find a mirror option.

    If this is not possible can I present these disks  directly to IBM i and mirror the namespaces via IBM i?

    Hi,
    1 You must not mirror disks at the VIOS level - if you do mirroring problems are not reported to the Client OS.  This can lead to no one spotting stale mirrors and horrible problems later.
    2 Not with NVMe as there is no equivalent to the SAS adapter functions with NVMe.

    4 Yes and it is recommended and a standard IBM i option. Note I am not an IBM i expert but my friend tell me this.

    Thanks.  Agree with your suggestion  - what I did is present both NVMe disks to IBM I partition and then I did a mirror from it.
